The Spirit of Love

The more you become reconnected to your emotions, the more you may realize that holding on to bitterness and resentment is just not working for you anymore.  Healing softens the heart and allows room for forgiveness and compassion.  Eventually, there comes a time when you’re able to look back and find yourself feeling pity for those who have caused you pain… wondering what traumas they have endured that have produced such hateful, cruel attitudes and behaviors.

That awareness is not a sudden, startling thing.  It moves quietly through you, permeating you with an understanding that sometimes bad things happen to good people for no explainable reason; yet with that awareness comes gentle pleasure and an acceptance that you are right where you need to be to learn and do what you were sent here for…

Your life becomes fuller, richer, more satisfying.  You have created a home for yourself, made friends who share your good times and bad, gained confidence in being self-sustaining, and are generally able to say – sometimes with surprise – “I’m actually happy!   You have learned that you have within yourself all that you need, and are content with your life just as it is.  You have finally grabbed onto the understanding that no one can fill the empty spaces inside except you, yourself.  And you have done the hard work to make that happen in your life...

It is often at this point, when you least expect it, you may find yourself drawn to someone special… a person who is unlike anyone you’ve ever known before… someone whose presence lights up your world and around whom you just feel wonderful…  You may be so unprepared for this phenomenon that you have trouble even naming it.

And then, one day, you realize that what you’re experiencing is love.  This can be so frightening that you may run from it, or try to deny it, or move away from it… afraid that if you allow yourself to be vulnerable again, to love again, you will be hurt, just as you were before.  Many of us who have been abused have never known real love before… we have only lived with the dream of being in love and the nightmare of violence.

Will you have the courage to take that risk?  To take the chance of learning that love is, truly, patient, kind, and full of understanding?  Can you trust the Spirit of Love? That Higher Power, that Divine Being – by whatever name It may be known to you – Who wants only the best for you, gives you the choice…

What will you do?
